IQ and academic assessments provide essential information about your child’s cognitive abilities, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, learning style and academic needs.

Kids InSight Psychology offer a range of assessments tailored to meet the individual needs of each child. We use standardised tests to investigate how your child is performing and provide a comprehensive report which details the test results and recommendations for future learning.

The Assessment Process - What to expect:

An initial appointment will be scheduled with the parent/s to gather appropriate information such as; developmental, medical and academic history and concerns or reasons for requesting the assessment.

The administration of the psychometric test at your child’s school or at the clinic. (Approximately 1.5-2hours)

Feedback session, to discuss your child’s results and report recommendations.

A meeting/ phone conversation with your child’s teacher/learning support (optional).

Cognitive (IQ) Assessments: WISC-V
A cognitive assessment measures a child’s intellectual capabilities. Kids InSight Psychology use standardised psychometric tests to identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses by assessing various areas of cognitive ability. These include, Verbal Comprehension, Visual Spatial, Fluid Reasoning, Working Memory and Processing Speed. A cognitive assessment may be suggested by your child’s teacher in order to diagnose learning difficulties or giftedness.
​Kids InSight Psychology use the following Cognitive (IQ) tests:

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition, AustralianStandardisation (WISC-V) for children aged 6 to 16 years.

​Stanford Binet Intelligence Scales (SB5) for children aged 2 – 7 years.

Academic Achievement Assessments: WIAT-III
An academic assessment provides important information about a child’s academic achievement skills across a range of academic domains including, oral and written language, spelling, basic reading, reading comprehension and mathematics. Academic assessments provide a good indication of how your child is performing in comparison to same aged / grade matched peers. It is also a valuable tool in identifying specific learning disorders and areas of academic strength and weakness.
​An academic assessment may be used in conjunction with a cognitive (IQ) assessment to provide a comprehensive overview of academic and cognitive ability.

ADHD Assessments ​

Our ADHD Assessment process can help determine whether an individual meets the Diagnostic Criteria for ADHD.

Kids InSight Psychology offers assessments for children and adolescents who may be experiencing differences in their Executive Functioning skills, such as Attention and Concentration, Task Initiation and Completion, Planning and Organisation Skills, Working Memory, Impulsivity, Emotion Regulation and Hyperactivity.

The assessment process involves an intake interview, behavioural observations, completion of various questionnaires about ADHD and direct testing of cognition, memory and/or executive functioning.

You will be provided with a report of the outcome and recommendations in how to manage these differences.
